Kaohsiung City has both an international harbor and an airport. Front-line workforce at the ports is exposed to high-risk visitors and crew from abroad. Considering the fact there are more than 23 units and 7,200 staff stationed at the ports, in order to guard the health of staff and safety of communities domestically, Department of Health, Kaohsiung City Government collaborates with The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Kaohsiung- Pingtung Regional, to set up COVID-19 vaccination sites. The sites are located at Terminal 3 of Kaohsiung International Airport and Office 2 of International Traveller Service Center of KW9 at Port of Kaohsiung on April 29th and May 3rd. Provided by  Kaohsiung Municipal Min-Sheng Hospital and Kaohsiung Municipal Ta-Tung Hospital, professional medical personnel are stationed to offer more centralized and convenient vaccination services to people who are at high-risk of COVID-19 such as crew of international merchant cargos, flight crew of nationality and staff at the ports.
Deputy Director-general Lin, Meng-Chiao arrived at the vaccination site today (29th) to inspect the execution and to thank port staff for holding their posts during the pandemic prevention period. Lin expressed that the border is the front line to stop the pandemic invasion, and he encouraged all port members to carry out fundamental prevention training in order to ensure that all staff, families, and workplace are free from virus attack. Taking vaccination and generating immunity collectively as early as possible is the priority at this point. The Public Health Bureau will review the performance of the vaccination sites today (29th) and next Monday (May 3rd). More vaccination sites will be set up if needed in order to provide more effective and convenient services so that higher coverage of vaccination at ports will be expected.
The Public Health Bureau expressed that according to the research, protection effect of AZ vaccines which applied in Taiwan is above 70% against UK-variant, and can effectively avoid serious illness 100%. It is the most effective tool against COVID-19 at this stage.AZ vaccines have passed scientific examinations on the safety and clinical tests. International and domestic experts and conferences all suggest that the advantages of vaccination outweigh the disadvantages.  Given that there are confirmed cases of family members of the flight crew, it is strongly recommended that front-line staff members and people at high-risk take part in vaccination. This act can help strengthen border protection, block pandemic outbreaks, as well as protecting everyone’s health. There are 22 contract hospitals in Kaohsiung City that offer COVID-19 vaccines for priority groups 1~6. By the time of the publish date (April 28th, 2021), there were already 7,595 people fully vaccinated in the city (including priority group 1~3 6,438 people, group 4~6 564 people, and  593 people on their own expense). People who are qualified for vaccination can go to the COVID-19 vaccination site of the official website of Kaohsiung City Public Health Bureau to look up available hospitals and make appointments online. Due to the fact vaccines came in multi-dose vial, please arrive at the site for vaccination with identify proof such as NHI card at appointed time in order to minimize vaccine depletion.
The Public Health Bureau reminds you to rest and observe at least 30 minutes after vaccination at the site. Side effects include pain on injection area which usually vanishes within few days. Other effects may include fever, fatigue, headache, muscle soreness, etc. They are usually relieved within 48 hours. If the symptoms did not improve, please visit the nearest hospital to find out the cause. It is encouraged to follow the principles of new pandemic-safe life, wash hands regularly, wear a face mask, and keep social distance even after the vaccination of COVID-19 in order to lower the risk of contagion and ensure individual health.
