The number of people who have received state-funded influenza vaccines for this year (2020) is much higher than in the same period last year.  Up to October 22nd, over 478,000 injections have been prescribed in Kaohsiung City, among which the completion rate of elders aged above 65 years receiving vaccinations is 44.69%, the completion rate of children aged 6-36 months receiving vaccinations is 78.51%, the completion rate of children aged 6-36 months (first vaccination, not receiving vaccinations before) is 17.66%, the completion rate of children aged above 3 years and below school age receiving vaccinations is 44.76%, and the completion rate of children aged above 3 years and below school age not receiving vaccinations (the first vaccination) is 7.43%. The Department of Health, Kaohsiung City Government would like to remind in particular that children under three years of age can only receive vaccinations produced by Sanofi S.A., and the Department of Health has reserved sufficient stocks of vaccine for children under 3 years old. School-based vaccination programs and other positive incentive measures will be carried out in the near future to improve children vaccination rates.
To improve the vaccination rates of elders over 65 years old and children under 6 years of age, the Department of Health, Kaohsiung City Government has launched respectively the scheme of “Get a Flu Vaccine and Win Awesome Prizes” and “Help Your Children to Receive an Influenza Vaccine and Obtain Free Gifts” in succession. Citizens aged over 65 years whose household is registered in Kaohsiung City and infants over half a year old that caring at any public or private preschool and childcare center can take part in the raffle held by the Department of Health on handing in the reply slip within the prescribed time limit after receiving the flu vaccination. The Department of Health will draw out the lucky winners and give out the prizes. Specific types of prizes include: TAKURA massage chair, Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Cryptomic™, Nintendo Switch game console, Apple Watch S6 sport band, Philips air fryer, etc. In addition, a pack of Kuai Kuai snack will also be presented to children who take the initiative to get vaccinated against the flu at school.
The Department of Health recommends that the citizens can call the hospital or clinic to inquire about the information on vaccinations and make an appointment before visiting the contract medical institution to avoid disappointment or not getting a vaccine after waiting in a long line. According to the monitoring data provided by Centers for Disease Control, MOHW, no influenza pandemic and influenza virus infections have been found inside the country up till the present moment. Citizens and nationals should continue to implement “Epidemic New Life Movement” and take all the personal hygiene and protection requirements, including wearing masks correctly, providing washing/cleaning agents for hands, keeping social distancing, following coughing and sneezing manners, and staying at home when they are sick, which are the most effective ways to prevent and control the spread and outbreak of influenza, coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and enteroviruses. For more information related to contract medical institutions that provide state-funded influenza vaccines, events, and vaccinations, please refer to the section of “Influenza Vaccine” on the official website of Department of Health, Kaohsiung City Government.
