There is a new case of enterovirus with severe complication in this city. The department of health imposed heavy penalties on the education institutions that have not report according to the regulations!
According to the Intestinal Virus Epidemic Surveillance Data of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the number of visits to Outpatient and Emergency Departments in the 32nd week was 8,420 (Warning value: 11,000), and the number of visits to Kaohsiung City clinics and emergency departments was 1,089 (Warning value: 1,300). A total of 25 cases of enterovirus infection with severe complication were diagnosed in the entire nation. The types of the enterovirus were Coxsackie A, Coxsackie B, Enterovirus 71(EV71) and Echovirus. Enterovirus infection types show a trend of diversity. At present, 59 cases of EV71 have been detected in China, and the recent cases of community EV71 positive cases are fluctuating. Therefore, the relevant epidemic prevention work should be kept vigilant and should not be ignored.
Last week, the third case of severe enterovirus infection occurred in Kaohsiung city. It was a 2-year-old and 1-month-old boy living in Dashu district. The disease developed on July 26th and he had fever since then. On July 27th, he suffered from persistent fever and oral ulcer. He was brought to the clinic and was diagnosed enterovirus infection. On August 2nd, convulsions occurred over left foot. He became weaker and was referred to the large hospital for treatment. On August 6th, the condition was stable and discharged. He was diagnosed with EV71 subsequently and his family members and the classmates of the same kindergarten were diagnosed as enterovirus infection as well. 
The department of health supervised the kindergarten to strengthen the implementation of hand hygiene, health management and environmental clean-up measures. Up to now, four educational institutions will be fined due to delay report to the department of health.
